Das Essex Team mit seinen bekannten Fahrern, wie Mario Andreatti, Elio de Angelis und Nigel Mansell, war ein kuzlebiges, aber sehr extravagantes Formel 1 Team der 80er Jahre. Finanziert wurde es von David  Thieme, dem Gründer der Essex Overseas Petroleum.
Die Autos des Teams, hauptsächlich der bekannte Lotus 81, waren bekannt für ihre extravagante und auffällige Präsentation mit blau-roter Lackierung, die zu dieser Zeit nicht so üblich waren.
